COMMON QUESTIONS

Assessment FAQs

Most assessments involve 1-2 sessions, plus an initial consultation and feedback session. The total process from first contact to receiving your report is typically 6-8 weeks. ADHD and autism assessments may take slightly longer due to the need for multi-informant data collection.

No referral is required to book an assessment. However, if you want to claim Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP that refers specifically to our practice. We can guide you through this process.

We assess children and adolescents aged 4–18. For younger children, we use play-based and observation-based assessment methods. For teenagers, we use age-appropriate tools and involve them in the feedback process.

You’ll receive a comprehensive written report with clear findings and specific, actionable recommendations for home, school, and services. We also provide a feedback session where we walk through everything in plain language and answer all your questions. If therapy or further support is recommended, we can provide this in-house or refer to appropriate specialists.

Reports are typically completed within 6–8 weeks of the final assessment session. We prioritise thoroughness — your report will include detailed findings, specific recommendations, and clear next steps. If you need a faster turnaround for school enrolment or NDIS deadlines, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
