Careers at Alloy Health

Do your best paediatric work, with the time and support to do it properly.

Alloy Health is a Melbourne paediatric psychology and speech pathology practice providing assessment, therapy and ongoing support for children and adolescents. We give clinicians the time, tools and clinical support to do good work properly, and we pay for the clinical work around the appointment, not only the appointment itself.

OPEN ROLES

We do not advertise a role until the recurring work behind it actually exists, so there is not always something open here. There is always a conversation available. Tell us what you are looking for and we will tell you honestly whether and when we are likely to have it.

HOW WE WORK

You get paid for the whole job

Every assessment carries a paid allocation for scoring and report writing, commonly six to twelve hours depending on the instrument set. If you finish inside the allocation, you are paid the full allocation. If a report needs more time, tell us before you run out and we will look at the case, the support you need and the extra hours together. Additional hours worked are paid.

The allocation exists so the work can be planned and the quality protected. It is not a cap on what you are paid.

The same principle covers the rest of the job. Client sessions, scoring, report writing, case notes, feedback sessions, approved clinical correspondence, supervision and required meetings are all paid work.

The parts that usually eat your week

Administration handles initial and ongoing bookings, calendar administration, invoicing, the practice management system, your Microsoft 365 account, assessment software and equipment. You identify when a feedback session needs to happen and administration schedules it. What stays with you is the clinical work: your case notes, your clinical emails and your reports.

Clinical time in clinic. Focused work where it works best.

Client appointments happen in our paediatric clinic locations. Work such as report writing and scoring can generally be completed remotely, so you are not spending every paid hour in a consulting room.

YOU ARE NOT ON YOUR OWN

A second review on every report

Every report you write is read by another clinician before it reaches a family. It gives you another clinical perspective on the work, and it keeps quality from depending on any one person.

Paid supervision for psychologists

Psychologists receive supervision with Katherine Gayton, a dual-endorsed Clinical and Educational and Developmental Psychologist, ADOS-trained clinician and Board-approved supervisor. Supervision is provided at no cost and your time in it is paid.

Multidisciplinary thinking

Psychology and speech pathology contribute to the same clinical picture. Joint assessments are discussed together rather than each discipline working in isolation.

We work with children and adolescents around learning, development, communication, behaviour, autism and ADHD. Roles here take one of three shapes.

Assessment

Complete high quality paediatric assessments with paid scoring and report time, multidisciplinary input, and a second clinical review before anything reaches a family.

Therapy

Build ongoing relationships with children and families, with administration handling bookings and invoicing, and the clinical work around your sessions completed in paid time.

A mixture of both

Where client demand and clinical need align, work across assessment and therapy, including the opportunity to keep supporting a child after an assessment rather than ending the relationship when the report is delivered.

Whichever shape your role takes, the point is the same: helping a child and family understand what is happening and what comes next. In assessment, that often comes together in the feedback session. In therapy, it happens over time as understanding turns into practical change. Where clinically appropriate, the same clinician may be able to support a family across both.

The work available changes with client demand, so each vacancy is specific about the caseload we are actually hiring for.

WHAT YOU WOULD EARN

We do not publish one rate, because we do not pay one rate.

Pay is set for each role against your registration status, your classification under the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020, your relevant experience and the responsibilities of the role.
We classify the role before we make an offer and record it in your agreement. No offer sits below the applicable classification rate. Offers sit above it where experience or specialist capability warrants it.
You are told the rate or range before your interview, not at the end of the process. Every live role page carries it.
We review your classification, duties and rate at six months, and again when your registration, classification or responsibilities materially change. A review does not automatically mean a rate change, but it means the conversation happens rather than being left for you to raise.
The same approach applies across psychology, speech pathology and future allied health roles.

Katherine Gayton, Clinical Psychologist and founder of Alloy Health in Melbourne

WHO YOU WOULD WORK WITH

In a practice this size, you work with the founder directly.

Alloy Health was founded by Katherine Gayton, a Clinical Psychologist with dual AHPRA endorsements in Clinical Psychology and in Educational and Developmental Psychology. She is ADOS-trained and a Board-approved supervisor. She built Alloy Health after seeing how long families were waiting for assessment, and wanting to create a practice where careful clinical work, multidisciplinary thinking and clinician support were built into the way the service operates.

She is also the person who reviews your reports, provides your supervision if you are a psychologist, and makes the decision on your application. In a practice this size there is nobody in between, which is both the appeal and the limit of working somewhere small.

IS THIS YOU?

There is no perfect candidate and no checklist. These are simply the people who tend to enjoy it here.

  • You care whether your work is genuinely useful to a family and a school, not only whether it is clinically defensible.
  • You want assessment work, therapy work, or a mixture of both.
  • You are comfortable working independently, and you ask for input when a case needs it.
  • You are reliable with reports and communication, and you say something early when your workload is not working.
  • You would like a say in how a growing multidisciplinary practice actually runs.

NEXT STEPS

How to apply

Four steps, and the first one commits you to nothing.

1

Start a conversation, or apply for a role. Neither commits you to anything.

2

Speak with Katherine about the role and what you are looking for.

3

A structured interview, with a short Alloy clinical exercise where it is relevant to the role.

4

References, and a decision.

If this sounds like the kind of clinical work and working environment you have been looking for, we would like to hear from you. You do not need to be ready to move today. Apply for a current role, register your interest, or simply start a conversation with us.
